On Global Handwashing Day, celebrated on October 15th, we proudly partnered with Reckitt to hold an impactful handwashing demonstration at the Pediatrics Ward of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. Under this year’s theme, “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important?”, the event aimed to emphasize the importance of hand hygiene, especially in preventing the spread of infections in healthcare settings.
The Importance of Handwashing
Handwashing with soap is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of diseases. In healthcare environments, the stakes are even higher, particularly in pediatric wards where vulnerable young patients are more susceptible to infections. Our demonstration focused on:
- Proper handwashing techniques: Step-by-step guidance on effective handwashing to remove germs and prevent infections.
- The critical role of healthcare workers: Highlighting how regular handwashing by staff can reduce healthcare-associated infections.
- Community education: Raising awareness among caregivers and visitors on the importance of hand hygiene, especially when interacting with patients.
Key Highlights from the Event
1. Interactive Demonstrations: Nurses, doctors, and caregivers were led through demonstrations showing the six-step handwashing technique to ensure thorough cleaning.
2. Engaging with Young Patients: The children in the ward, along with their families, participated in fun, interactive activities designed to reinforce the importance of clean hands.
3. Expert Insights from Dettol: Our partners from Dettol shared valuable insights on the global handwashing campaigns and how simple hygiene habits can prevent the spread of common illnesses.
A Continued Commitment to Hygiene
This event was a resounding success, reminding us all why hand hygiene continues to be a cornerstone of health and infection prevention. We are grateful to Dettol for their continued partnership in promoting hygiene and ensuring that both healthcare professionals and communities understand the lasting importance of clean hands.
Let’s keep the conversation going — because clean hands save lives!
