ADVOCACY COMPETENCE COURSE

Tuesday 25th, 26th, & 27th April 2017

Venue: Jacaranda Hotel - Westlands

 

The Business Advocacy Fund (the Fund) supports Business Associations engage in private public dialogue to advocate an improved business environment in Kenya. This support is provided in the form of grants to finance advocacy projects. To ensure effective outcomes from this financial support the Fund also conducts training in advocacy. 

 We are pleased to invite you to the Advocacy Competence Course to be held on Tuesday the 25th April at Jacaranda Hotel, Westlands. It will be followed by Influencing skills training the following day on Wednesday the 26th April and Media Relations on Thursday the 27th April 2017. The Advocacy Competence course will cover the following:


Day 1: Introduction to Advocacy

  • The 5 Step approach to advocacy
  • The regulatory environment for business
  • Identifying an advocacy issue and strategy
  • Preparing a concept note and application to the Business Advocacy Fund
  • Research for advocacy

Day 2: Influencing Skills

  • Principles of influencing
  • Tactics of influencing
  • Successful negotiation
  • Communication & communication skills

Day 3: Media Relations

  • Introduction to media and media relations
  • The press release
  • Interviews
  • Message development
  • An effective press office

Note: We provide accommodation for those coming from upcountry. There are no fees charged to attend the training. A certificate is only awarded to those who attend all three days of the Advocacy Competence Course.
