Social Responsibility and Welfare Committee
Mandate
To lead KMA's corporate social responsibility initiatives and champion the welfare of members facing personal, financial, or professional hardship.
Objectives
- Coordinate medical camps, community outreach and pro bono health services.
- Manage member welfare schemes, including bereavement support and emergency assistance.
- Strengthen KMA's visibility and goodwill within communities in line with the Association's public service mandate.
- Mobilise resources and partnerships to support CSR and welfare activities.
- Develop guidelines for the administration of welfare support to members.
- Identify and pursue fundraising opportunities, including grants, partnerships, sponsorships and donor funding, for projects that align with the Committee's mandate.
Convener
Dr. Bonnke Reinhard Arunga
Dr. Bonnke Reinhard Arunga is a practicing physician and Medical Officer In-Charge at Kisumu Specialist Hospital, where he leads clinical operations and quality improvement. He serves the Kenya Medical Association as Convenor of the Social Responsibility and Welfare Committee, a role to which he has been re-elected, championing member welfare and physician wellness across the profession.
A clinician-engineer, Dr. Arunga builds and maintains digital health tools aimed at improving clinical workflows and medical education in Kenya. His professional interests span clinical practice, health systems, and the application of technology to strengthen healthcare delivery.
Within KMA, he remains committed to advancing member welfare, professional standards, and the broader mandate of the Association.
